Churchtown was then rebuilt between 1825 and 1949 by Sir Edward Tierney, agent to the Earl of Egmont (Landlord). To this day Churchtown, which is a limestone-built village, remains largely intact. Churchtown was built in the form of a square and in its centre Churchtown's racing heritage is commemorated with a bronze horse sculpture. St.Nicholas Church, which is the spiritual hear of the Village, was built in 1839. A Welcome Information Kiosk has been erected on the Burton Road as you approach the village. The Kiosk carries lots of interesting information about Churchtown's history. Visitors can read this and other plaques erected at the "old" Post Office, the Pound Corner and at Bruhenny medieval Graveyard. A series of seven walking or cycling trials are marked out in the Churchtown area. They range from 4 miles up to 12 miles and include some lovely quiet country lanes. The Imogane Road is one of the loveliest four mile walking or cycling routes in Churchtown. Bruhenny Graveyard is located just off the village square and dates back over 1,000 years. Oliver Reed is buried in the graveyard. A "cillin" graveyard at Mount Brigid has been marked with a plaque. It is located near St.Brigid's Holy Well about a mile outside Churchtown Village.
